The gift most mums would cherish for Mother’s Day doesn’t cost a penny, according to a new report.
Men’s fashion brand Jacamo commissioned a survey to discover the top presents UK mums really want from their son’s and the results may come as a surprise for many.
Although many other more conventional shop-bought presents were included, number one on the wish-list of gifts, as voted for by over 1000 UK mothers of boys, was something money can’t buy.
“A hug from my son”, was the top pick from just under a third (29%) of mum’s who responded to the poll. A restaurant meal with him, came second, with one in five (21%) saying that was what they would look forward to most and a day out with their son was third (17%). Other presents that made it on to the list included; perfume, plants, bouquet of flowers, book, and CD/DVD. The perennial fall-back gift of a box of chocolates just squeezed on at number ten.
The results come after the famously touching social media post by former Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray earlier this year after he announced his retirement. He captioned a picture of him with his arm round mum: "best way to feel better after a tough day is a big cuddle from your mum.”
However, Andy, 31, is far from the only well-known man happy to publicly acknowledge his love and respect for his mother. Other celebrity sons and mums happy to hug for the cameras include Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham, Patsy Kensit and Lennon Gallagher, Donna and Ryan Gosling, Jan and Robbie Williams, Jane and Brad Pitt and Irmalin and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The most recent figures from retail analysts Mintel show around £600 million was spent on Mother’s Day cards and gifts last year.
In separate research, card payment company Worldpay predicts Mother’s Day spending could reach £184 million on Sunday (March 31st) alone, with florists set to be 206% busier than usual, while restaurant takings are expected to rise 59% compared with an average Sunday.
Jenni Bamford of Jacamo commented: “In our busy society where families are often separated by many miles and may even live in different countries it’s easy to under estimate the value of simple human contact, but when you look at the number of male celebrities who have taken their mothers to red carpet events and see the delight on both their faces, it is clear that there is a special bond with mother’s and sons. It is lovely to buy mum a gift on her special day, but perhaps the best gift of all is to give your time.”
