November 2018: Research out today from the leading menswear online retailer Jacamo, shows that ‘Mancations’ are on the up, with over 38% of British men agreeing that trips involving a one off activity with male friends are becoming the alternative to the traditional boozy lads’ holidays of old.
Male bonding trips away are clearly good for their health too, as 53% of British men admit they find quality time away with male friends has both a positive and beneficial effect on their mental wellbeing, and 42% of British men surveyed confess that the typical boozy ‘lads holidays’ had never really appealed to them in the first place.
To reinforce the notion that Mancations are becoming a priority, a mighty 45% of men admit to taking a Mancation that wasn’t a stag do within the last year, and a giant 60% of men surveyed say they would like to take these sorts of trips as regularly as once a year or more. Luckily for British men, 41% believe that their partners fully understand the importance and need of a male only trip.
Watching live sport (37%) comes out on top as the most popular activity for men to enjoy on their Mancation, followed by a brewery visit (20%) and hiking (15%). Other popular activities were cited as cycling, fishing and golf.
The research shows that the popularity of the drinking culture is in decline, with 48% of those surveyed admitting they choose not to go on trips that mainly consist drinking a lot of alcohol and a further 10% say they don’t drink any alcohol at all. Despite this, 58% still think that there are negative stereotypes around groups of men going away together.
Jenni Bamford from Jacamo said: “The research shows that Mancations are on the increase and it’s great to hear that men really feel the positive effects of spending time together. These fun, one off activities are helping men to ‘live their moment’ and we hope to encourage them to take more male bonding trips in the future!”
