Men fear being a Gherkin, want to be the Walkie Talkie, and may very well end up looking like the Tyne Bridge, according to a radical new body-shape guide.
A new body shape guide launched by high street retailer Jacamo reveals a picture of the modern-day male form as a skyline of six iconic British buildings. The move is part of the retailer’s overhaul of in store Style Engineer service. Staff will be undergoing refresher training to ensure men as well as women can get first class advice on dressing for their shape.
The top heavy Walkie Talkie body-shape is illustrated by the wide shoulders, developed chest muscles and lithe hips of famous physiques belonging to David Beckham, David Gandy and Daniel Craig.
Tall, angular Blackpool Towers, such as comedian Russell Brand, Mick Jagger and Peter Crouch, are identified by their slimmer shoulders, hips and long legs, while Tyne Bridge types such as Mayor of London Boris Johnson, Jay-Z and Russell Crowe are feeling the effects of a little middle-aged spread combined with gravity, mirrored by the prominent curvature of the famous land mark.
The no-nonsense, solid and reliable shape of Big Ben symbolises the average build of the likes of Prince William, Freddie Flintoff and Benedict Cumberbatch and the Gherkin typifies body types such as Jonny Wilkinson and James Corden, with their medium shoulders, larger tummies, narrower hips and often shorter legs.
Even more recognisable, the world famous contours of Stonehenge have the appearance of a robust Mike Tindall or the increasingly stocky Simon Cowell.
Jacamo spokesperson Martin Roberts, said: “Ever since Trinny and Susannah, women have had a clear guide to help them dress for their shape. It’s time men had the same.
“No bloke wants to look a fool down in front of their mates. This guide, combined with the training of our staff is aimed at giving men the nod of approval before they step out – it’s about ensuring they make the best of what they’ve got.
“Dressing to suit your shape is a skill that for many people has to be learned. If you have never had any help or advice in that area, as is the case with many UK men, then you will have no confidence when buying clothes and may purchase in a hurry and regret it later.
“Our guide is all about inclusivity and getting the message across that whatever your measurements, we have garments that will fit you. A great fit can make the wearer appear taller and slimmer, which in turns helps them become more confident because they know they look at the top of their game.”
