Board Appointment - R Youngjohns

30 April 1999

N Brown Group plc, the Manchester based direct catalogue home shopping group, announces the appointment today of Robert Youngjohns as a non-executive director.

Mr Youngjohns, aged 47, is Vice President of Sun MicrosystemsTM, one of the fastest growing and most innovative high technology companies in the world. At SunTM, Mr Youngjohns is responsible for the company's business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with annual revenues of more than $3 billion, almost a third of Sun's total sales.

Mr Youngjohns is due to replace Paul Forster, who has indicated that he does not wish to stand for re-election to the N Brown board at the Annual General Meeting in July, having served on the board for over six years. As such Mr Youngjohns will also succeed Mr Forster as Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

Commenting on the appointment Sir David Alliance, CBE, Chairman of N Brown, said:

"Robert will be a major addition to the board. He brings extensive experience in the international business arena and a hands on knowledge of meeting the challenges of fast moving and dynamic markets. At the same time he will provide us with valuable insight and advice in the area of electronic commerce, an area where we believe there is great potential."
