N Brown scoops Manchester Evening News Award

09 November 2001

I am delighted to announce that N Brown has been awarded “Business of the Year” for 2001 by the Manchester Evening News. The awards ceremony was held yesterday evening at the Midland Hotel here in Manchester. Over 300 people watched as the fantastic news was broken in a pre-recorded announcement by Prime Minister Tony Blair. The N Brown name now joins such illustrious previous winners as Airtours and Manchester United.

This award follows on from another compliment we were paid last December – the CBI’s Business Executive of the Year award. Both of these presentations recognise our position of outstanding success in a highly competitive marketplace, and are a great tribute to the great people who work at N Brown and make my job very easy.

Our Chairman Sir David Alliance (pictured left) added his own words of congratulation, saying he was “extremely proud to be a shareholder of the company”, and also offered his best wishes to the “4000 people that have helped make this award possible”.

In total, eleven companies fought for the top slot in three award categories, with N Brown winning the award in the main category – Companies with turnover of over £35m. Our memento of this great success – a crystal rose bowl – will soon be on display in our Dale Street Reception.

My thanks – and congratulations – to each of you; we can all feel extremely proud that our efforts have been recognised.
